About Fishforecasts

Fishforecasts is DTU Aqua's website for generating and collating forecasts of marine ecosystems.

The website aims to serve as a dissemination portal for the body of marine ecosystem forecasts that are now starting to emerge. These forecasts range from the seasonal scale (e.g. three-six months) to the sub-decadel (3-5 year) and even decadel scale. The forecasts are based on a combination of state-of-the-art remote sensing techniques (i.e. satellte observations) combined with the predictions of advanced oceanographic and climate models. These forecasts are then translated into biological predictions using our current knowledge of the relationship between physics and biology.

Some of the first products that can be expected to appear are relating to the spatial distribution of species, particularly of Mackerel during their spawning and feeding periods. However, other products are expected to encompass Bluefin Tuna, Bue whiting, Garfish and Sprat.

The research underpinning Fishforecasts has been supported by the NACLIM, a project within the European Union 7th Framework Programme (FP7 2013-2013) under grant agreement number 308299 and Blue-Action, a project with the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement number 727852.
